The Value of Books

A lot of the leadership work I do with clients has a direct correlation to their company values. The closer link I can make to values, culture, and leadership, the more powerful the sessions tend to be. At home, my husband and I do the same work for our household. We have determined a set of values we use to help guide our decisions.

While working one afternoon, I looked at my bookshelves and realized that if someone were to gander at my books, they would see my shelves as a reflection of my values. For example, there’s an entire section of books on business and leadership, something I have dedicated many of my professional efforts to. There are books on writing and art because I value creativity. There are maps and books on travel because I value adventure. There are textbooks that emphasize a value for learning and application of knowledge. There are fiction books for the pure pleasure of them, and there are books that address health.

Do the books on your shelves align with your values?
